I decided that I couldn't take it any longer. My tank was unkempt and hideous.
Granted, it still looks unkempt. The foreground plants are rather scattered and messy. It's not even close to being done. It needs color. It needs organization, in a natural sort of way. It needs more driftwood. In fact, the only way I got that piece of driftwood to sink in the tank was to dig up an old piece of slate from a previous piece and manhandle a screw in there. I did a piss poor job, too, and the screw is sticking out just enough from the bottom that I can't bury it deeply in the substrate. In fact, that piece may eventually go into the 29. Who knows? I have three other new pieces that I can mess with, but not a damn one of them sinks at the moment. I have another piece of slate but I can't get the buggar on any of the wood, and I don't have enough rocks to sink it anyway.
The point is...I'm not done. But I've adhered to some basic principles of aquascaping, including the rule of thirds, and the idea that the plants can form a V-shape and come together in the off-center middle of the tank. I actually think that driftwood is a nice eye-grabber. I have a bid in one a piece of driftwood on eBay that, if I got it, would be wonderful here. The rotala (maybe it is indica after all) is thriving; in addition to growing several inches, at least one of them has started to turn pink on the tip.
Whatever. I have more work to do.
Oh, and I found three not-so-baby guppies hiding in the plants! Holy shit, was I surprised. As much as I hated to do it, I grabbed them and put them in Jerkface's tank. And I've decided Peg has to go. I can't have any more damn guppies. I hope Jerkface eats them.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you: The Evolution of the Tank.
