For the past few days I've been thinking about my skirts.
It's come to my attention that my two skirt groups total only five fish. After seeing Bruce on the tail end of some harassment this week, it got me thinking that the skirts are too few in number. A school needs to be at least 6. And I have both black and white skirts, and they don't really school together. So I have two sad groups.
My first instinct was to say, well, I raised these guys for years and I can't just dump them at a pet store. My second instinct was to tell myself that they may not be happy here. And truthfully, I'm not thrilled with the skirts myself. (It's hard to admit that because I feel like I'm talking about dumping a dog at the pound or something.) While they don't harass Rhaegar, they're not colorful and they're not that interesting. I miss my school of cardinals, and I like the idea of a school of red phantom tetras too. Something bright and flashy. The deeper I get into my tank the more I understand about the art of fish, and how a school can really dominate a tank, aesthetically. I'm moving up in the ranks from having a piecemeal fish collection.
I'd have to find somebody to take my skirts, though. I suspect the LFS in Moundsville might take them. I could try Craigslist. I can't really add to the black skirt school because I'd still have the white skirts to deal with, and the bioload would start creeping up. Plus, I can't mess up Rhaegar. I don't want him nipped. I know that any tetra could nip him.
It's a pickle. I've posed my question to the forum.
